Update: Facebook seems to be down again at the moment for some. In different regions of the world there are issues, in other parts the service is working as normal. Let us know how it is with you.
This morning Facebook servers went down for about 20 minutes. Now servers and websites sometimes do go down. And we then work on getting them back on and continue with our lives.
Not when it comes to Facebook however.
Firstly. Facebook doesn’t go down. At least, that’s what Mark Zuckerberg supposedly said and which was quoted in the movie about Facebook, The Social Network:
But it did go down.
Which meant that on Twitter we could see the impact of a modern day crash. A social network, the biggest social network, goes down.
What happened next was this…
We looked at Twitter to see how you responded. And it gave us a nice insight into the psyche of people and brands. Here’s how you responded:
First there was the news…
There were those that thought they had to tell the rest of the world about it…
But I kind of agree with these Tweeters here:
Then there was panic…
Then those who were (trying to be) funny showed up…
There was rumour…
When funny was all taken, those that (tried to be) clever about it came to the playing field:
Brands started to think this was an “Oreo” opportunity:
And then Facebook was up again
When the servers were restored, so was the eco system. But not before…
It was news again…
And we could be clever about it again
And a little bit relieved…
But mostly it’s time to get back to work…
And he’s right…
