Tablet and Smartphone internet traffic may favour Android in other countries, but in the UK, Apple still lead the way. According to Adobe, 84% of UK traffic via a tablet device went to iOS in February 2013, with 53.5% of UK traffic via mobile phones doing the same. Of the six countries analysed, Adobe confirmed – unsurprisingly – that iOS and Android completely dominated the market share.
More than 90% of smartphone owners used these operating systems, with iOS the leader in the UK, the US and in France. Blackberry users on the RIM OS accounted for 1.4% of tablet internet traffic in the UK and 4.1 of smartphone traffic – the highest figures recorded out of the countries selected.
Adobe also confirmed that although smartphone traffic is comparable between the UK and the US, tablet traffic is substantially higher. In fact, those of us in the UK are the demographic most likely to use a tablet to surf the internet, and the joint third highest population to use a smartphone for the same intent.
If any brands are hesitating to optimise their site for mobile use, they run the risk of losing out to competitors who have already made the financial and developmental commitment to do so. Internet access via a mobile device continues to grow year on year, with the number of people now accessing online resources this way increasing from 60.3 Million to 818.4 Million in the last 2 years.

Although their hold of the market was slightly less than mobile at 77%, the iOS platform still outperformed Android in all 6 countries.
