The end of the year is approaching rapidly so it is time to start counting down to the New Years. And I always like to do that in a special way. Because this blog is something special. Special because the authors of this blog are not only very smart people who write great content, but also very nice people who all have one thing in common: they have a specific drive and they are genuine.
Our State of Search blogging team is very special. And that team deserves the attention, so we are giving them the attention they deserve. Today our blogger who went ‘down under’: Sam Murray.
Questions
The questions answered by Sam:
What post are you are most proud of this year?
Although it didn’t really set the world alight and make people hail me as the new messiah, I enjoyed learning, writing and still implementing the Pomodoro technique to improve your time management. Managing accounts, and your time effectively, especially now since I have gone freelance, is vital. You want to be able to show what value you have provided for X over a set period and having a solid plan of action without any distractions helps massively. It sounds simple but after discussion amongst peers a lot of people struggle and can relate to it.
What was your (personal or business, or both) highlight of 2011?
Moving to Australia. Although I miss friends and family back home it was something I have wanted to do for a while so I am happy I made the step. Luckily, Lisa Myers, still gives me work on behalf of Verve and my new adventure has started to blossom. I now have a good client list and am working on some exciting new projects which is exactly what I wanted, and have just enough time for a passion project. I should also be working for one of Australia’s top agency soon for a contract job. I am also very happy with the recent ROI award from Econsultancy for one of our clients that I was working on. To be honest, I need to shout out to Lisa as without learning from her for the past 4+ years I wouldn’t have been able to do it, so……………… THANK YOU!
What are you ‘wishing’ for 2012?
Health and happiness. That is all I can hope for.
A personal thought about Sam
Sam Murray is probably the most loyal employee you could get. Lisa can vouch for that. His move to Australia earlier this year really must have hurt in Lisa’s offices. And the fact that it probably was the most difficult message Sam ever had to tell somebody shows how loyal Sam is.
Sam has been with us since the start and he is the one who still has the best read post on State of Search. He knows how to write content that triggers!
Sam, I hope you are enjoying Australia and that you will find what you are looking for down there. And that you will share your experience in Australian search with us! I’ll watch the Spurs for you ;).
