Meet Our 2011 Bloggers: Barry Adams

22nd December 2011

The end of the year is approaching rapidly so it is time to start counting down to the New Years. And I always like to do that in a special way. Because this blog is something special. Special because the authors of this blog are not only very smart people who write great content, but also very nice people who all have one thing in common: they have a specific drive and they are genuine.

I am highlighting all the bloggers on State of Search, simply because they deserve it. They are a very special bunch of people who deserve some attention. Now it is time for Barry Adams

Questions

I asked Barry the same questions as I did the others:

What post are you are most proud of this year?
Like in 2010, there are a couple of posts I’m a wee bit proud of in 2011. A recent one, SEO for E-commerce, was pretty well-received, as was the Three Essential Skills for Beginning SEOs. But if I had to pick my best one of 2011, it would be The 5 Best SEO Books That Aren’t About SEO.

What was your (personal or business, or both) highlight of 2011?
On 25th February 2011 I got married to the love of my life, in a wonderful ceremony held in a 1000-year old castle on top of a hill overlooking a lake with a spectacular mountainous backdrop. A truly perfect day.

What are you ‘wishing’ for 2012?
I wish for Google to stop waging its sneaky and destructive war on SEO and small businesses, but that wish is very unlikely to come true. I wish for businesses, especially here in Northern Ireland, to fully embrace online marketing and integrate it in to their overall marketing strategy. But most of all I wish for continued safety, health & happiness of all my loved ones.

A personal thought about Barry

Barry has a very special place in our blogging team. When I started at the cowboys I brought Barry in and he has never left my side when it comes to blogging. And boy has he grown, not literally, though he is a big guy 😉 , but if you look back at how he started and how well respected he is now in the industry, that fills me with a lot of pride. Well done mate.

There’s something about Barry though. Maybe it is the fact that he is a Dutchman who has turned British. At the Searchawards for a minute I thought I was the only Dutch guy there, because Barry has adapted to the UK so much he seems more British than Dutch. But that is not what that ‘something’ is.

Barry seems to be the tough guy. The one who is not afraid to state an opinion and the one who tries to be as against the grain as possible. He likes to kick peoples ass. But that is just the outside. On the inside he is probably the most loyal and soft person you can find. If he is with you he is with you all the way. Like a dog who never leaves his best buddies side. Barry can bark allright, like no other, but he is one great guy to have on your side!

Barry, I wish you and your wife the best of holidays and the best 2012 you can possibly imagine. It’s great to have you on board and since you have been there from the start, I trust you will bring us some great stuff in the future and will stick with us as long as we are around.
