The New Facebook Branded Pages Are Here: Time To Get To Work

29th February 2012

At the beginning of the New Year I decided it was time to clean up our State of Search Facebook page. That was very necessary because it had turned ‘old’ rather quickly.

It now looks like I have to ‘start all over’, Facebook just released their new Facebook Brand Pages. Until the end of March page owners have time to update their pages. You can switch to the new design before, but if you haven’t changed the settings by then Facebook will do it for you.

The new branded pages are very similar to the ‘timeline pages’ that individual users have since a few months. As a brand page owner however there are a few things you can do to make tour brand ‘stand out’ just a little bit more.

If you go to your brand page now you will see a message above your page saying “Coming Soon: New Facebook Pages“:

Clicking on the ‘preview’ will take you to the ‘new page’:

As you can immediately see it looks a lot like the Facebook timeline. There are however a few things I will need to do. For starters I should add a cover to give it some more ‘schwung’ and the logo, which I had crafted so nicely in the last ‘design update’ I did myself, now looks not so good.

You can also see that the different sections and subpages I created are now located above the page, some of them with thumbnails which need some work.

The admin panel

One nice change is the admin panel. Clicking on the button unfolds the admin panel where I can see the last notifications, likes and insights.

A nice feature when you scroll down is the timeline buttons which stick to to the top when scrolling. Here you can immediately click to the different areas of the page.

Get to work

The new branded pages will go live for everyone on March 30th. That will give us a month to update our things. Facebook itself has set up a specific page where you can see a preview and find (a little bit) of help.
